Icod de los Vinos
An 800-year-old dragon tree, with Teide behind it
Icod is the town of the Drago Milenario, a dragon tree reckoned to be about 800 years old and a National Monument since 1917. It stands in a three-hectare park beside the church of San Marcos, at the end of cobbled streets, small squares and fountains, and WebTenerife gives the town one of the island’s best views of Teide.

Get to know Icod de los Vinos.
The Millennial Dragon Tree is, WebTenerife says, probably the figure that most identifies Icod de los Vinos: a National Monument since 1917, its age put at about 800 years. The historic centre can be seen on a quiet walk, Icod has one of the best views of Teide, and in the upper part of the municipality is the Cueva del Viento, one of the largest volcanic tubes in the world.
Why go
-
The Drago and its park
The Parque del Drago covers three hectares of paths among native plants, recreates the island’s main ecosystems and leads through the Barranco Caforiño to a cave showing how the Guanches lived; it has viewpoints over Teide, the Atlantic and the old town.
-
Wine and fish on the table
The economy grew on vines and fishing, and the food shows it: papas con mojo, salted fish, grilled meat, local wines and farmhouse cheeses.
-
The Cueva del Viento above the town
In the upper part of the municipality is the Cueva del Viento, the largest volcanic tube in Europe and one of the longest in the world, visited only with a guide and an advance booking.

It is the symbol of the town, a National Monument since 1917 with an estimated age of around 800 years, and the three-hectare park around it adds native gardens, a Guanche cave and viewpoints over Teide and the sea. WebTenerife includes it in a one-day visit with the old town and San Marcos beach.
