The practical part
The essentials
Pick a base on an airport line
Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos sit on line 40 from Tenerife South, with the night line 711 after it stops; Santa Cruz is the end of line 10 from the south airport and line 20 from the north one; Puerto de la Cruz has line 30 straight from Tenerife North, and La Laguna is a stop on line 20. Choose the base whose airport line matches your flight, and the first and last bus of your holiday take care of themselves.

Plan each day around the way back
Every destination page on this site carries a next-bus board or links the guide that has one. Pick your bus back from the tab for your day before you set out: a Sunday table is thinner than a weekday one, Teide has one bus up and one down, and the last coastal bus decides how long a west-coast day can be.
Pay by card or cash, or buy a ten+ card
A TITSA single ticket can be paid by bank card or cash on board. For more than a couple of rides the ten+ cards are the simpler buy: the Day Travelcard covers bus and tram for 24 hours from first use and is sold at the airport ticket machines, TITSA stations, kiosks and tram machines. TITSA sets the prices, which is why this site prints none.

Know what the bus does not do
The bus takes you to the Teide cable car base, not up the volcano: the cable car is a separate ticket. Punta de Teno and the Anaga trails are walks that start where a bus stops (lines 369 and 946), so read the destination page’s return advice before you commit. Masca’s gorge is different: a booked, descent-only walk from the Masca visitor centre, reached on line 355 from Santiago del Teide, that ends at the sea, where the only way out is the boat you booked to Los Gigantes, not a bus stop. La Gomera is a ferry from Los Cristianos, not a bus.

Which base is best without a car?
For the airport-to-beach holiday with Teide and the west coast as day trips, Costa Adeje or Los Cristianos: line 40 from TFS, line 342 to Teide, lines 477 and 473 towards Los Gigantes, and the La Gomera ferry from Los Cristianos harbour. For towns, markets and the green north, La Laguna or Puerto de la Cruz: line 20 or 30 from TFN, line 100 and 103 between them and Santa Cruz, line 348 to Teide, line 50 to the Punta del Hidalgo pools. Santa Cruz is the hub with the most lines and the fewest beaches, which line 910 to Las Teresitas puts right.
By bus, with a change, or not by bus
Each destination page says which. By bus: a TITSA stop in the place itself, on a line the page names from a base. With a change: a connection at an interchange such as Santa Cruz Intercambiador or Puerto de la Cruz station, which this site draws as a change rather than a single line. Not by bus: the cable car cabin, the Masca gorge floor, boat trips and anything the operator’s pages do not reach; the page names the alternative and never pretends.

Sundays and public holidays
TITSA prints Sundays and public holidays on one table, and the boards on this site switch to it on the holiday dates in the Canary calendar. Buses run on every corridor this site covers, but the first bus is later and the gaps are longer; the airport lines 40, 10 and 30 keep their daily pattern.
Two airports, one island
Tenerife South (TFS) serves most holiday flights and the southern resorts; Tenerife North (TFN) sits between La Laguna and Santa Cruz and serves the metropolitan area and the north. Line 343 links the two airports directly. Start from the airport code on your booking, then read that airport’s board on this site.

Asked and answered
Questions people ask
Can you get around Tenerife without a car?
Yes, if you stay in a base on an airport line and plan around TITSA’s tables. Both airports, the five bases this site covers, Teide, Anaga, the west coast and the La Gomera ferry are all reachable by bus; the gaps are the walks between a stop and a trailhead, which the destination pages measure in honest words rather than invented minutes.
Checked TITSA lines 342, 946 TITSA: Tenerife airport bus hub
Is there a bus from Tenerife South Airport to Puerto de la Cruz?
Yes: line 343 runs direct from Tenerife South Airport to Puerto de la Cruz station by way of Tenerife North Airport, with few trips a day; the airport page prints its board. Otherwise take line 10 from TFS to Santa Cruz Intercambiador and change to line 100, or fly into Tenerife North, where line 30 is direct.
How much is the bus in Tenerife?
This site prints no fares, because TITSA sets them and changes them without notice; its fares page carries the current prices and the ten+ card conditions. What the site does say is where to pay and how: by card or cash on board, or with a ten+ card bought at the airport machines.
Checked TITSA: Tickets and fares
Do I need to book a bus seat?
No. TITSA’s lines on this site are ordinary public buses: pay as you board. The one bus that behaves like a tour is line 342 to Teide, with a single morning departure, so be at the stop early rather than booking.
The other half of the plan
And the way back.
Choose the bus back before you leave your base, from the tab for your day on the destination’s board, and be at the stop early: TITSA times departures, not arrivals, so a bus can pass an intermediate stop a little before or after the printed time.
